Fall is coming to an end. So you know what that means? It is time for winter sports! The boys soccer season has kicked off and is in full swing.

Last season they finished with a record of 4-13. Last season they did not win a single game at home, last week they defeated Astronaut high school 4-3 at home. The boys have won two out of five games so far. Progression is key for the soccer team this season. Here’s a look at the schedule for the rest of their season.

Matthew Dailey is the head coach and Brian Campanelli is the assistant coach. Coach Dailey and Campanelli have both coached the team for a total of two years. As the season continues many players will be brought up from junior varsity, but for now, here are the varsity soccer players.

The captains of the team are Brixton Maze, Jose Munoz, and Kelvin Reyes. Brixton Maze is a senior and is going on his third year of being apart of the varsity team. Brixton is a defender. Kelvin Reyes and Jose Munoz are both sophomores. Jose is a midfielder and Kelvin is a goalkeeper. Last season Kelvin  won the “Semper Fidelis Player of The Year” award because of his incredible ability and determination.

Khalil Brown, Brian Thomas, and Bryan Mazariegos are all seniors and are defenders for the team. The other defenders are; freshman Aldo Solis, sophomore Gerson Bravo, and freshman Christian Corado. The midfielders for the team are; freshman Asani Brown, freshman Andrick Perez, sophomore Enrique Juarez, junior Josue Godinez freshman Nick King and seventh grader Andy Sanchez. The team’s starting striker is eighth grader Anthony Revolorio. Eighth grader Kevin Morales and freshman Juan Valencia are forwards.

Freshman Juan Valencia leads the team in goals with three and is tied with Josue Godinez for assists with two. Kelvin Reyes has 33 saves in five games.

The boys soccer team looks to continue to improve. A total of fourteen out of the eighteen players on the varsity team are not seniors, this shows the team is young and filled with potential. The four seniors play a big role for the team as leaders. The boys soccer team will continue to improve throughout the season, make sure you come out to a game and catch them in action! The varsity team’s next home game is Wednesday, November 29th against Heritage.  Best of luck to the players and coaches.
