Seven Tigers Named To 4A All-State Team

Last week, Florida High School Football named its Class 4A All-State Team and the Cocoa Tigers had seven players selected.

Javian Hawkins was named First Team offense and selected as the Offensive Player of The Year. Hawkins had a breakout senior season, rushing for 1,783 yards on 198 carries and 20 touchdowns in 11 games. His remarkable performance was awarded with the Offensive Player of The Year award.

Along with Hawkins, center Josh Padrick and kicker Alex Petruzzello were selected to the First Team Offense for the second consecutive year. This was Padrick’s fourth year as the starting center. Alex Petruzzello made 8-of-10 field goal attempts and 69 of 70 PATs, which earned him his second First Team All-State nomination.

Willie Gaines earned a spot on the Second Team offense in his junior season and first year playing for the Tigers. Willie ran for 1,349 yards on 157 carries along with 15 rushing touchdowns. Willie stepped up in the playoffs when the team needed him when Hawkins went down with an injury.

Three Tigers were selected to the Second Team Defense including defensive end Howard Stewart, linebacker Tri-Marea Charles and defensive back Javonn Roberson. Stewart, a  four-year starter, had seven sacks and 61 total tackles in 12 games.

First-year Tigers Tri-Marea Charles and Javonn Roberson made a big impact. Tri-Marea had 59 total tackles and six sacks while Javonn Roberson had one interception, one sack and 56 tackles.

Zach Brasher was selected to the Honorable Mention list as a offensive lineman. The senior offensive guard was counted on his exceptional play and leadership for the Tigers.
