EVENT SPOTLIGHT: JROTC Community Event, The Beach Cleanup

Welcome back Cocoa Tigers. Another school year, another community service event. To start off this school year, we begin with the Florida Coastal Cleanup sponsored by Keep Brevard Beautiful.

Keep Brevard Beautiful is a non-profit organization business that puts in many hours to accomplish great things. “Keep Brevard Beautiful has worked tirelessly to keep our communities clean, with a focus on eradicating litter. KBB educates the citizens of our County about recycling and diminishing waste and strives to assist with attracting businesses and tourists to our lovely communities.” says Tony Sasso the executive director of KBB.

Every year the JROTC cadets get together with another school and participate in this event, in which bettering our community. On September 15th at 8:00 a.m JROTC cadets and non-cadets began gathering together to start helping our community. With help from First Sergeant Fredy Moreno and First Sergeant David Mercer (JROTCS AI’S), we were able to be led out with pride.

“It was an inspirational event, where I was able to see the community come together and clean up our environment. While putting all differences aside, we cleaned, it was an uplifting experience.” said Alison Clark a student at Cocoa High who came out and helped out our district although she is not a JROTC cadet.

Although it was very hot out, they still had tons of kids and adults, from all around come out and help out with the community. Events like this bring the community together in a positive way to help change the world.

In the end, the beach looked nice and everyone felt like they did something great. The Army Instructors were proud of everyone and they had support from everyone around them and even got people to join in who were enjoying a beach day. It was an overall accomplishment for the entire community and a big thank you to everyone who participated.
